Constance Frances Marie Ockelman (November 14th 1922 – July 7th 1973), known professionally as Veronica Lake, was an American film, stage, and television actress.

Lake is perhaps best known for her alluring femme fatale roles in film noirs during the 1940s. Sporting her famous and influential peek-a-boo hairstyle in films such as Sullivan's Travels (1941) and I Married a Witch (1942).

As the 1940s came to a close Lake's career began to decline with her making just only one film in the 1950s, however she was able to secure numerous guest appearances on television. She made a brief comeback with her returned to the big screen in 1966 with the film Footsteps in the Snow (1966), alas the role failed to relaunch her career.

Lake's memoir, Veronica: The Autobiography of Veronica Lake, was published in 1970 whilst her final screen role was in a low-budget horror film, Flesh Feast (1970) whilst she supported her income working as a waitress and making appearances on chat shows.

A heavy drinker for most of her life Lake died at the age of 50 on 7th July 1973 from hepatitis and acute kidney injury.

I’ve reached a point in my life where it’s the little things that matter... I was always a rebel and probably could have got much farther had I changed my attitude. But when you think about it, I got pretty far without changing attitudes. I’m happier with that.
