James Dean
James Byron Dean (February 8th 1931 – September 30th 1955) was an American actor. A cultural icon who epitomised cool, rebellion, and angst. Perhaps best know as Jett Stark the disillusioned teenage inflicted with social estrangement in the 1955 film Rebel Without a Cause. His only two other credits were as loner Carl Trask in East of Eden and aloof ranch hand Jett Rink in 1956 film Giant (released after his death).
Living fast and dying young in a car crash in September 1955, forever securing his place as a legend and icon. His fame continues to grow with a new fanbase finding him with every new generation. We can only imagine the career he might have had, with Oscar nominations for both East of Eden and Giant coming posthumously it’s clear he was just getting started.
In 1999 the American Film Institute ranked James Dean as the 18th best male movie star of Golden Age Hollywood in AFI's 100 Years...100 Stars list.
